Myotherapy & Remedial Massage
Book a ConsultationMassage Therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare modality that aids in alleviating the physical discomfort, using hands-on manual therapy techniques to treat the body’s soft tissue structures (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being.
All technique forms (including fixed or variable pressure, friction, rocking articulation, kneading or compression) are applied to the muscular structures and soft tissues, to the benefit the musculoskeletal, circulatory-lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body.
As an extension to qualifications obtained for Massage Therapists, Myotherapists are independent Allied Health Practitioners, who adopt a specialised approach to clinical assessment and treatment of common soft-tissue conditions, incorporating injury prevention, health and fitness advice and exercise prescription into their treatments, in addition to advanced soft-tissue treatment.
Myotherapists are highly skilled in use of massage techniques to reduce tension and pain in the body’s muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. Where indicated, Myotherapists also utilise a wide range of additional manual therapy techniques e.g. joint mobilisation, muscle energy techniques, myofascial manipulation and release, positional release techniques, assisted PNF stretching etc.
An initial Myotherapy consultation involves a review of the client’s medical history, detailed physical examination and functional testing of the muscles and joints to identify the problem areas and associated contributing factors.
When examining a client a Myotherapist will examine not only at the specific area of pain or discomfort, but also more expansively at the client’s posture, including occupational and environmental factors which may cause repetitive strain, aggravate or otherwise contribute to their dysfunction. Children’s Wellness Group Myotherapist, Jessica Jones, has additional post-graduate qualifications in health sciences and ergonomics that allows her to development an individualised treatment plan which addresses not only symptoms but also the underlying cause of the client’s condition.
Myotherapists are also experienced in the use of additional instrumented methods to restore normal function to the body’s musculoskeletal system including muscle and joint taping, myofascial dry needling, myofascial cupping, use of thermal therapies (use of heat and cold), and use of TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) machines.
